basis

A womenswear capsule collection inspired largely by the design philosophies of contemporary architect Claudio Silvestrin. Silvestrin states in his essay, "Like an Elephant", that "it is the architects task to design spaces imbued with spirit and materials, where one can at times find refuge, cleanse the inner self, rediscover peace, and grow mentally stronger: spaces conceived for the clarification of the mind. Without such places we would fall into an unbearable vacuum and barrenness." I believe that this philosophy translates just as well into the design of clothing as it does in architecture. Clothing that is influenced by the beauty which comes from the natural world through its visuals and materials. Wool, cotton, silk, and linen rather than synthetics. Clothing that is designed for effortless beauty and ease which can create a sense of serenity in the wearer.

This collection is designed for the woman who is in search of simplicity in life without eschewing the importance of beauty and love. In a pursuit of a certain asceticism, which leads them to humility, and frees them from excess and gaudiness which end up racking the mind and soul. Humility in design is the search for beauty through simplicity. Humility in a wardrobe is not the complete lack of any beautiful clothes so as not to appear vain, but instead, it comes from a want for simplicity and is an escape from the superfluous aspects of life.
